Leslie Rylee Decorative Arts and Interiors

February 20, 2018

It doesn’t get any cheerier than this Maine beach cottage designed by Leslie Rylee of Leslie Rylee Decorative Arts and Interiors! The New York City-based interior designer worked with builder Wright-Ryan Homes on the renovation of the historic 1887 shingle-style home captured by Kritsada Photography. Aside from the kaleidoscope of color and fun mix of patterns throughout, it’s the original quirky details that won me over. How delightful are the fish-scale shingles and the band of sand dollars rimming the living room above?! The builder preserved all of the home’s historic details, including original flooring, windows, doors, and woodwork, then skillfully blended in architectural salvage and reproduced millwork where needed. The result is bright and happy weekend retreat that lovingly honors its past.

The whimsical Josef Frank print on Schumacher’s Citrus Garden ties the home’s color palette together.

The coral on the doors and window frames is an unexpected touch. Love the bistro chairs too!

The master bedroom is so fresh and inviting.

The porches in the home are amazing, especially the sleeping porch below. What a dream!

Now this is a real, old-timey, don’t-make-’em-like-that-anymore, charming beach cottage! What a dream home! Everything about it is wonderful — that staircase! that sleeping porch! Ahhhhh, so refreshing! There’s nothing better than when an heirloom home is loving restored while keeping all the original details that make her a beauty.

Love this cottage – it would be great if the paint brands and colors were given so we could use the same ideas!

While many of the coastal bedrooms you see are blue and white with striped accents, you can add as many patterns as you like

[…] While many of the coastal bedrooms you see are blue and white with striped accents, you can add as many patterns as you like. If you want to be safe, keep your patterns in the blue family so they’ll match your theme. If you want to be a risk taker, choose patterns with colors on the same side of the color wheel. Either way, you’ll end up with a beauty. […]
