I don’t feel like we see this look enough! More mountain homes need to incorporate pretty turquoise hues, don’t you think? The soothing color palette in the living room designed by Suzanne Kasler for the 2010 Cashiers Designer Showhouse is the perfect juxtaposition to the more rustic space. I love the stacked-stone fireplace, ivory furniture and layered rugs! Lynn Monday designed the dreamy sitting room in the home. I love the colors she used in there…and how about that nailhead trim on the walls?! So cool! You can see more photos of the showhouse taken by Erica George Dines over at Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle!

While this is lovely, and Suzanne Kasler is so talented, I have to say that this just doesn't evoke a mountain feel. If it weren't for the architecture – the stone fireplace and wood plank ceiling and beams – you wouldn't know this is in the mountains at all. The pale colors look beachy. The antlers seem to be the only concession to the mountain aesthetic. While I know some feel that rustic is always dark and heavy, you can lighten it up without going to extremes. I have a rustic cabin in the mountains of NC, and I know that the look here just wouldn't go over well with most clients (especially men!). They want to feel they're in the mountains. Certainly, a rustic themed look can be overdone, but there are ways of bringing nature in without resorting to cliches. While pretty, this just doesn't say you're in the mountains. Without the architectural elements, this room could be anywhere.

I love this house and these photos. The colors are so soothing and calming! The only thing I really don't like is the antlers on the mirror. I wish those were pieces of driftwood or something.

I totally agree about the mountain home + turquoise thing. I love the high wood ceiling, that rustic chandelier and the double rug thing in the living room!

I love the last room. It's an amazing way to make a small space cozy yet open. Wouldn't mind chilling there a little now.

I know this is old, but I just found this picture, and the fireplace and beams are so much like my home, only my walls are a dark putty color. I would love to lighten them up. I can't find any links to determine what the wall color is. Any chance you would have an idea? Thanks, I love your blog!
