Margie McCulloch

September 8, 2011

Charmingly old yet refreshingly new is the perfect description of Colorado Homes and Lifestyles’s Kitchen of the Year designed by Margie McCulloch of Red Pepper Kitchen and Bath Design out of Boulder. The owners wanted the space to have an Old-World feel but modern functionality, and the materials had to be interesting, textural and top of the line. I love the distressed cabinets painted Benjamin Moore’s Aegean Teal, all the interesting hardware and the gorgeous three-dimensional tiles from Ann Sacks! To read all about the space and see more photos by Linda Hanselman, head over here!

This is a very masculine kitchen, but I really like it! Usually the turquoise shades are used in a more feminine way, but it is so nice to see it looking a little rugged and smokey! I really love the backsplash as well and the distressed look. Very unique and cozy!

Obviously, love the color of the cabinets….I'm about to dart out my door to the nearest BM paint shop and get paintchip cards in all those colors coming off of your site!! I just have to! My parrot will look absolutely stunning next to those colors in my home…(if you look closely, she has a torquoise blue patch on her head, near her beak…the color is beautiful.)
Also, love the laterns hanging…they 'look' old, not shiny and new giving the kitchen a very cozy feeling.

Of course, I love the color 'Turquoise' but in a kitchen shown in your post, it's soft and refreshing. The tile is a great change from the subway style that we often see.
    Great work on your blog!
