Day One: Dream Home Tour

June 13, 2011

–Continue to Day Two, Day Three, Day Four or Day Five!–

I’m beyond excited to share this spectacular home with you guys. Believe it or not, this space actually belongs to one of my readers. After years of saving design ideas in a folder, Cristi and her husband Jeff recently completed building their dream home in Lindon, Utah. They knew exactly what kind of home they wanted: light, beachy and airy. The couple has ties to Hawaii and wanted to incorporate that feel into their new home. And two years ago they took a trip out to the Hamptons (they won the trip on Price is Right! ha!) and fell in love with the homes out there. (There should really be a support group for us!) When it came time to finally build their new home, their aim was to fuse the Hawaiian beachy feel with the Hamptons waterfront classic architecture and design. I’m loving the results!

Their dream home took them a year and a half to complete from the design and concept stage to the certificate of occupancy. They selected award-winning Morgan Hatfield of Hatfield Homes to bring their vision to life. Cristi’s husband Jeff actually did quite a bit of the architectural design while Cristi worked very closely with another award-winner, talented interior designer Lindy Allen of Four Chairs Furniture. She was able to perfectly implement all of those fabulous ideas Cristi had been saving for so long. (In fact, it’s an honor to know a lot of her inspiration actually came from reading House of Turquoise!) Building their new home was a labor of love for them and it truly is “their baby”!

Cristi may not be a designer, but it should come as no surprise that she does indeed have an artistic background. She’s not only musical, but is also a photographer by profession. (She and Jessi Safsten of Hiya Papaya took all these amazing images above!) Check out their website here…what talent!

Seriously, I’m madly in love with this home and Cristi’s photographs that capture it so beautifully. Pretty sure if I was going to build my dream home it would look exactly like this. All week I’m going to be taking you on a tour of their entire home, so come back tomorrow to continue on! I can’t wait for you guys to see more of it…I guarantee you’ll love it all!

If you have any questions at all about anything you see, please don’t hesitate to ask away! Cristi is a real sweetheart and is more than willing to share! 🙂

    Erin,

I think this is going to be my favorite week on your blog, although I must say I love every week, but this house is incredible.

San and I are moving to a townhouse apartment in Minneapolis (right on the border of Minneapolis and Richfield) on Wednesday and have started to think about decorating. The only style we can agree on (and I want him to have a say in the decorating because he has strong feelings about it) is a beachy coastal style which I have rarely seen in MN. However, this house is already giving me the confidence to translate that style somewhere that is nowhere near the ocean. We have over 10,000 lakes so really we should be able to decorate like people do when they live on the ocean, right?

I can't wait to see more of this delicious house!!

    Thanks!
    -Sarah

Hi everyone! Thank you for the wonderful comments! And thanks so much, Erin, for doing this post. It's a dream come true! 🙂

I'll try to answer all the questions that I can. Here goes:

Front door paint color (and garage and shuttters – which aren't up in the pics posted here yet): Benjamin Moore's Wythe Blue (HC-143)

Entry color: Restoration Hardware's Silver Sage (my FAVORITE paint color in the entire house!)

Sandy paint color: Benjamin Moore's Ashwood (OC-47)

You can find the chandelier at laylagrayce.com

You can find the rugs at 4-chairs.com

Okay … so I THINK that was all the questions for now. Let me know if there are any more!!

    Lovely, indeed!

Would you please share with us the material of the exterior? Did the shingles come that color or were they painted? If they were painted, what color are they?? Also, what is the color of the exterior trim…I love that it's just the right shade!

    Thanks!!

    Liz

  27. Cristi says

    June 13, 2011 at 6:00 pm

The shingles are real cedar shakes. They came natural and our builder hand-dipped each one (!!!) in paint so that they would still have the "natural" look to them. The color of the shakes is Benjamin Moore's Edgecomb Gray (HC-173). I'll have to find out the color of the trim. I don't remember that off the top of my head. (So many whites to choose from and my pregnant brain is forgetting which one we actually did end up going with!) Will get back to you on that!

  28. Cristi says

    June 13, 2011 at 6:06 pm

You know what? I think I'm remembering that the trim color is Benjamin Moore's White Dove (OC-17). I know that's what the inside trim color is. I'm pretty sure we used it for the exterior too. 🙂

What a lovely house – and it looks pretty expensive. I too have been "dreaming" to own a Hawaiian-themed house – with the beach, the white sand, the sun, and all the holas.

Ever since me and my hubby had our honeymoon in Hawaii eight years ago, I can't stop thinking about it.

For now, our current 2-floor home is good enough.

Simply LOVE this beautiful home! I am a few years behind on discovering this post, but after reading through the comments, I was curious if the ceiling color throughout the house is also Benjamin Moore's White Dove (like the trim) or just decorator's white? Thanks for any help on this topic!

  82. Cristi says

    June 26, 2013 at 12:40 am

@Cassady – I just found your post. Sorry! Yes, the ceilings are white dove as well. @wallpaper Perth, the floors are white oak – reclaimed wood from an old barn. @Primer and Painted Nails – the floor color was hard to achieve (our finishers had never done anything like it). They painted over them (did a white washing) with a white-green-grayish paint to achieve the worn, beachy look.
