Remodelaholic & DIY Showoff

July 19, 2011

A little bit country and a little bit beach beach, with some red and turquoise thrown in for good measure. That’s the fabulous room designed by the two talented bloggers Cassity of Remodelaholic and Roeshel of DIY Showoff. They recently worked as a team to design this entire room around the flooring (both wood and rug) for an HGTV HOME Flooring by Shaw event. And what a fun event it must have been! Their vision began with the beautiful Ikat Panel rug by Shaw. They pulled out pops of blue and red from the rug and kept everything else as neutral as they could. They added texture through the furnishings, incorporated typography in several places and finally found objects like the rusted wrought iron fence and carved wooden horse to round out the space and make it feel like it grew over time. It really looks that way too…you’d never know it was all put together in just 8 hours! I adore the beautiful wall color they chose (Copen Blue by Sherwin Williams) and the red painted chandelier (Antique Red by Sherwin Williams). Both Cassity and Roeshel had great write-ups about their experience, with loads of photos and fun stories, so check out their blogs for lots more!

This room is beautiful except one thing is bothering me. I wish they had hung the drapes higher.

Thanks for the awesome feature, Erin! We're so excited! Cassity is amazing! We so much fun working together!

Mary – both Cassity and I agree. We tried twice to get longer drapes but had to work with the options we had and felt drapes needed to touch the floor more so than being higher in this case. In a real room, those drapes would have been mounted higher for sure!

Thanks for sharing our design challenge, Erin! You rock!

I LOVE this room. You have given me some good ideas for my living room. I actually painted a lamp about the same blue already. And I have collected some beachy art. I love the grouping on the wall.

I agree about the drapes, though.

I love this! I want my house to feel this way–I love the dark metal finishes and the rustic wood touches paired with a cool wall color. It feels so warm and cozy!

Just the other night I did a post about living rooms I love and one of them turned out to be Roeshel and Cassity's. It's great to see more pics of it here. It's fabulous. Check out my post if you like. I have a couple other living rooms that have a touch of turquoise in them too. : ) Oh, and I'm your newest follower and I'm adding you to my blog roll. Great, balanced space. I have a note on the drapes. I agree about hanging them higher. I have a client who JUST hung their drapes without making sure with me first and they look so odd. HOWEVER, I know why this happens. If you wanted to hang them at/above the trim, you'd need to go the next size up and when most ppl measure, they measure from the top of the opening to the floor. It's a glitch! That means, you'd need to order 96" instead of 84" and hem them like 6 inches! Oy!
