Southern Highlands Reader’s Home

October 29, 2010

Oh to call this home! The serene space actually belongs to my reader Ali, who lives in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales (about 2 hours south of Sydney). Ali is a stay-at-home mom of 3 little ones (in addition to being an aspiring designer!) who is obsessed with the bluey/greeny/grey colors we all can’t get enough of. They recently built the home of their dreams in the country, but sadly have to move back to the city for a wider choice of schools for their son with Aspergers Syndrome. Gosh, I wish I lived in Australia right about now because their home is now up for sale. To see the listing and for more photos, just head here!

And with that, I wish you all a fantastic Halloween weekend!!! Be safe!

Okay, I'm in love with this place! Does anyone know the name/brand of the paint color used in the kitchen/living room? It's divine!

What a beautiful home! She did a great job on the design and decorating. I bet she is heart broken to move, but I am sure if they are selling it, it will go fast. You have some great followers with great taste.

Oh La La…beautiful. I must say I feel sad for them to have to sell, but very impressed to do the best for their child. I wish them the best life has to offer.

Their house is stunning and her colors are gorgeous! I bet it is hard for them to sell but they are doing what is right for their son. I am sure they will fix their new home up just as beautifully. I love their taste! Happy Halloween to you, too, Erin.

We Aussies know how to rock those blues and greens, don't we 🙂 Seriously, this is an absolutely gorgeous home, and one I'd love to buy myself – pity it's in another state! The Southern Highlands are divine – one of my favourite places in Australia. Just gorgeous, and it's going straight to my inspiration file. K xx

Ali did a great job in all aspects of this house. Just wonderful!

Eeeek, it's for sale!! It's simply gorgeous. Such a shame they have to move, I can imagine it's a real haven for them – so serene.

I can understand though, how they'd need to find a school with a good level of support for their son, it's harder if you're really rural.

I wish them the best of luck finding the right school and the right 'new home' for them all.

So serene! I bet the homeowner will be able to create a a sense of peace and calm in the city, too. That's what we city girls have to do!

    Happy weekend!

    Hi,
Ali here – thank you so much for all your lovely comments. Given me a real boost! The paint in the kitchen/living is called Spanish Olive by Dulux. But you guys have SO many beautiful paints at your fingertips over there I always have paint envy! Oh to be able to get Benjamin Moore!

Ali, wow your home is truly beautiful, you certainly have a lot of talent and style. I loved this post so much I had to email all my friends to show them the house of my dreams. I would love to know the name of those tiles used for the splashback in the kitchen and where to buy them? I'm in Australia too:-)

Hey there. Thanks so much for your lovely compliment. The tiles were from Aeria in Woollahra/Willoughby in Sydney. It was 5 years ago, however, when we built the house, so not sure if they still carry them. All the best, Ali

What a gorgeous home!! Every detail is absolute perfection. The only thing I didn't like are the short curtains in the bedroom. But that's just a personal thing. I like draperies all the way to the floor. Everything else is simply gorgeous. Love the muted colors!!

I love the paint in your kitchen and living room. I went to a local dealer in the USA to buy the paint but spanish olive by dulux turned out to be more of a pea green than a blue gray. Is there any advice you can give me??

Ali, have always loved the southern highlands, you have coordinated every thing to perfection & have us swooning, could you please please share the names of the fabrics used for your devine curtains (the taffeta ones in the master bedroom & also the ones in the dining room as well as your little girls room) looking forward to seeing what you do with your next place as your style is impeccable. Do you have a blog of your own? regards Noreen
