Southern Seaside Style

July 30, 2010

These folks in South Carolina don’t exactly live seaside (although according to the map, they’re a heck of a lot closer than I am!) but you’d never know it from their charming home designed by Jim Strickland of Historical Concepts, photographed here by Laurey W. Glenn for a feature in Southern Living. I swear I’m hearing waves after looking at all those breezy porches! That swinging daybed?! I WANT ONE! I love all those shutters so much too, you just don’t see them up here in Minnesota. We do have screened-in porches though, in fact mine is kinda like that last image. But I love how they have draperies made from waterproof sailcloth in theirs. My cute throw pillows and I could have used those during this nasty storm we had a few days ago! For more on this delightful home, head over to Southern Living! I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! 🙂

    Oh my gosh!! Dreamy.

I'm also from Minnesota. That house may look a little out of place in my neighborhood but its fun to dream!

Dreamy is right. I could not be more landlocked (in Nashville), but I think I would love having a Southern coastal vibe in my house.

Yes! I LOVE this house, I even did a post on it myself. I love all the breezy blues. I can't imagine ever feeling stressed in this house whatsoever. Although you don't have the picture of the kitchen up, I really loved the nautical-inspired pendant lights they installed over their island. This is such a great inspirational home!

I love everything about this! Yes, it looks like you'd step right out the door and take a few steps to the beach. When I saw these photos, I thought I bet this is Isle of Palms in South Carolina. Which is one of my most favorite places. This would be the beach house I'd have if I could. I just got my first issue of Southern Living….I got it because I used to adore Cottage Living and thought that they had incorporated stories into Southern Living that used to be in Cottage Living…but so far I've been very disappointed. I was hoping for stories like this.

So charming! I absolutely love shaggy dogs too…perfection. For me, a house is not a home until it has a shaggy dog to live in it 🙂

These folks don't know it yet, but I'm movin' in with them. I wonder if my cat will get along with the dog. I love the carpet in the living room. I could use it in just about any room in my house.

Being in the Arizona southwest, a porch like this wouldn't exactly fit in, but it's loaded with inspiration! Someday I hope to have a porch just as liveable and inviting, just with southwestern inspiration!

I'm adding this to my Dream File! I love the contrast between the rich woods and the soft blues, creamy whites and soft grays.

This cottage style is one of my favorites (I featured it on my blog a few days ago). Similar cottages are in Palmetto Bluff, SC.

I think the architect is Historical Concepts:
